Episode 13: Living Beyond Hodgkin Lymphoma – Simon & Sarah’s Stories

Host: Mark Murphy MBE
Guests: Simon and Sarah Waspe (brother and sister)
Recorded: September 2025 at Cancer Support Suffolk HQ, Ipswich

In this remarkable and moving episode, Mark Murphy MBE speaks with brother and sister Simon and Sarah, two inspiring individuals who have come through Hodgkin Lymphoma and now share their experiences of life beyond diagnosis and treatment.

Can you imagine being told you’ve had cancer not once, but three times? Simon and Sarah open up about their journeys with honesty and courage, offering hope and reassurance to others affected by cancer.

Sarah also supports Lymphoma Actionthe UK’s only charity dedicated to lymphoma. Their logo, the pink periwinkle flower, symbolises hope and healing – and from this same flower, scientists developed two powerful chemotherapy drugs, vinblastine and vincristine, which continue to save lives today.

Listeners will also hear about local support options, including the Ipswich Lymphoma & CLL Support Group, which meets regularly to connect, share experiences, and provide practical help for those living with or beyond lymphoma.

Topics include:

  • Simon and Sarah’s personal journeys with Hodgkin lymphoma
  • Facing a cancer diagnosis multiple times
  • Finding strength and resilience in recovery
  • The role of Lymphoma Action and the meaning behind the pink periwinkle
  • How chemotherapy drugs from the periwinkle have saved lives
  • Local peer support through the Ipswich Lymphoma & CLL Support Group

Whether you’re a patient, family member, or simply interested in cancer awareness, this episode offers strength, insight, and reassurance that there is life after cancer.
