Episode 16: Supporting People Affected by Asbestos-Related Illness
Host: Mark Murphy MBE
Guests: Phoebe Osborne, Solicitor at Hugh James
Recorded: January 2026 at Cancer Support Suffolk HQ, Ipswich
In this episode, Mark Murphy MBE speaks with Phoebe Osborne, a solicitor at Hugh James, about the realities of asbestos exposure and the vital support available to those affected by asbestos-related illnesses.
Phoebe shares insight into her specialist legal work supporting individuals and families impacted by asbestos exposure. As part of her commitment to patient advocacy, Hugh James generously provides Phoebe with one day each month to run the East of England Asbestos Patient Support Group — a dedicated space offering guidance, community, and practical support.
The conversation explores the wide range of illnesses linked to asbestos exposure, including mesothelioma, asbestosis, and other related respiratory conditions. Phoebe discusses the challenges patients and families often face following diagnosis, the importance of early support, and how access to accurate information can make a significant difference during an incredibly difficult time.
