Don’t ignore your invitations for screening in 2024.

Cancer Campaign in Suffolk is hoping that if you resolve to do one thing this January, you’ll resolve to go to your screening appointment. Our CEO Mark Murphy MBE says, “More than 25 per cent of us in Suffolk ignore the screening invitation, please resolve not to ignore it and make that appointment, early diagnosis and treatment could save your life”.

One of our volunteers Elizabeth Love-Mott, is backing the campaign. Elizabeth received her FIT poo test kit on her 60^th birthday, she ignored it and threw it in the drawer. She now regrets that as she was eventually diagnosed with rectal cancer. She says, “If I’d taken the poo test perhaps my diagnosis would have been much earlier and the treatment potentially less invasive”.  She adds “It’s nothing to worry about it’s only a piece of poo on a stick”.

Elizabeth was diagnosed with rectal cancer 18 months after she ignored the offer of screening, 18 months where she could have been receiving treatment.

So, what would she have done differently? “My advice is listen to YOUR BODY, no one knows it better than you, take every test offered to you and pester and push as much as you can, as it really could be your life at stake”

Mark Murphy adds “Whether it is the poo test, breast, or cervical screening it really is nothing to be afraid of, please if you resolve to do one thing this January, resolve to go to your screening appointment, it could save your life”.
