Introducing Our New CEO
NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE ANNOUNCED
FOR CANCER CAMPAIGN IN SUFFOLK
The Trustees of Cancer Campaign in Suffolk (CCiS) have today confirmed the appointment of a new Chief Executive, who will take over the role on 1st September, 2023.
Mark Murphy, MBE, has been selected after a formal interview process, and will succeed CCiS’s current Chief Executive, Karen Hare, when she retires at the end of the year.
Mark is well known to many people in the county, having formerly been a popular and multi award-winning presenter at BBC Radio Suffolk. During his many years in the broadcasting post, he became deeply involved in several charities and causes across the community.
Jonathan Ripman, Chair of Trustees for CCiS said “Now in its 25th year, CCiS, has a committed team in place, a superb new headquarters and its unique Community Cancer Wellbeing Hub. This makes it a wonderful time for the charity to be welcoming a new CEO, who can take the organisation forward to the next level. Unanimously, the charity Trustees firmly feel that Mark is the right person to do this.
“As well as being a high-profile radio presenter, Mark, who was awarded his MBE for services to radio and the community of Suffolk, has been part of the BBC Radio Suffolk management team for the last twenty years and he brings with him a wealth of experience. With his profile, and his experience, Mark is the perfect choice and we wish him many congratulations and the greatest success in the years ahead”.
Speaking of his appointment Mark commented “I’m really looking forward to starting work with the great team at Cancer Campaign in Suffolk. It’s vital to have a local charity like this to support people through their cancer journey and the team across every level of the organisation are amazing at what they do.
“I’d like to pay tribute to my predecessor Karen Hare for her dedication in the role of CEO, guiding the charity brilliantly over the last fifteen years. I wish her all the best for her retirement”.
He added: “We’re all touched in some way by cancer, either personally or through a loved one’s diagnosis. The charity has been helping local people for twenty-five years and we have some exciting plans to mark that significant anniversary in October. We’ll be releasing more details about how you can join in the celebrations soon on our website and social media channels.
“We’ll also be setting up a new friends’ group, so if you’d like to find out more about it and maybe help us out from time-to-time, I’d love to hear from you. Just drop me an e-mail to: theteam@cancercampaigninsuffolk.co.uk.
“Most importantly, if you or a loved one has cancer, or have recently been diagnosed and need some support, don’t hesitate to get in touch with CCIS.
“I can remember helping to fundraise when the charity began twenty five years ago, so it is very special and a great honour to become the new CEO and to carry on the great work Cancer Campaign in Suffolk does”.
