Episode 19: We Talk to Henry Andrews from the West Suffolk Prostate Cancer Support Group

Host: Mark Murphy MBE
Guests: Sally Thompson
Recorded: April 2026 at Cancer Support Suffolk HQ, Ipswich

In this episode, Mark Murphy MBE speaks with Henry Andrews from West Suffolk Prostate Cancer Support Group, also known as WhiSPer.

WhiSPer is an inclusive peer support group for people diagnosed with prostate cancer. The group offers a safe and welcoming space where individuals can talk openly about their experiences. This includes discussions around diagnosis, symptoms, treatment options, and the side effects that can follow.

A key focus of WhiSPer is connection. By bringing together people who are facing similar challenges, the group helps reduce feelings of isolation and encourages honest conversation. Members are able to share thoughts and feelings in a supportive environment, with others who understand first-hand what they are going through.

During the conversation, Henry explains how the group operates, the importance of peer support, and how simply talking to others can make a meaningful difference. The discussion highlights the value of listening, shared experience, and community in navigating life with prostate cancer.

This episode offers insight into the role of support groups and how they can complement medical care by addressing the emotional and social aspects of a cancer diagnosis.

If you or someone you know has been affected by prostate cancer and would like to connect with others in a similar position, you are encouraged to seek out support groups such as WhiSPer. Reaching out can be a positive step towards finding understanding, shared experience, and support.
